Teaching philosophy and literature through close reading and discussion.

I want difficult texts to become something a group can work through together. My teaching begins with questions, close reading, and room for students to test their interpretations.

At Harvard, I taught sections in Philosophy, Comparative Literature, and General Education. I have also taught Verlaine at Oxford, given invited lectures at Kobe, and worked with students through individual tutoring and thesis supervision.

At Kobe, I designed and taught Breath, Spirit, and Atmospheres, a graduate course that brings European and East Asian sources into conversation.
